The OpenSky Credit Card is a good credit card for people with bad credit who want high approval odds because there is no credit check when you apply. The downside of the OpenSky Card is its $35 annual fee, but that can be worth it for the chance to rebuild your credit.
Without a credit check, the OpenSky Card’s main approval requirements are being 18+ years old and having enough income to afford a $200+ security deposit, along with monthly bill payments.
Below, you can find additional information to help you make up your mind about applying for the OpenSky Secured Visa.
OpenSky Secured Credit Card Review Highlights
No credit check is great news for credit-rebuilders
Nearly all credit cards – including secured cards – require a credit check and have certain approval criteria that applicants must meet. For example, it can be difficult to get many secured cards if you have a recent bankruptcy or tax lien on your record. But that’s not the case with the OpenSky Credit Card.
OpenSky simply needs to verify your identity. This saves you from a hard credit inquiry that could temporarily lower your credit score, while enabling you to begin adding positive information to your credit reports as soon as possible.
$35 annual fee isn’t cheap or expensive
OpenSky’s annual fee is about average for a secured card, according to WalletHub data. So it isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker. But there are some secured cards with no annual fee, which you should definitely check out if your credit isn’t too severely damaged.
$200 minimum security deposit
The OpenSky Visa is a secured credit card, which means you will be required to place a refundable security deposit, the amount of which will act as your credit limit. This limits the issuer’s risk, giving applicants higher approval odds and fairly low fees.
Rewards on select purchases
You can now earn up to 10% cash back on purchases made with your OpenSky card at 40,000+ retailers. This adds a whole new dimension to the offer and can make rebuilding credit less costly overall. To find out more, you can visit OpenSky Rewards in the OpenSky app for participating retailers or visit their site.
Other fees to watch out for
For example, the OpenSky Secured Credit Card charges a 3% foreign-transaction fee and a late fee of up to $40.
Average APR, but financing still isn’t wise
Carrying a balance from month to month with a secured card doesn’t make much sense because it’s basically the equivalent of charging yourself for a loan. But if you’re unable to pay your bill in full during a given month, your balance will accrue interest at a rate of 25.64% (V), which is slightly above whatthe average secured card charges, according to WalletHub’s latest Credit Card Landscape Report.

It usually takes 24-48 hours to get approved for the OpenSky credit card. So, the only thing that involves a bit more waiting is your credit card delivery, which should take about 2 weeks.
Of course, application processing will take longer if they're not able to verify your identity right away. In this case, they will send you an email and your responsiveness will ultimately determine the timing of receipt of your credit card.

You can get a cash advance with your OpenSky card at any ATM that accepts Visa. That is virtually any ATM in the world, as the Visa network benefits from extensive worldwide acceptance. Keep in mind that you'll need a PIN to get an OpenSky cash advance from an ATM. If you haven't received a PIN with your card, call the number on the back of your card to request one. Yes, OpenSky is considered a major credit card. It is on the Visa network, so it benefits from extensive worldwide acceptance. However, if you're asking if OpenSky belongs to a major bank, then the answer would be no. The card is issued by Capital Bank, which is not one of the major credit card issuers.

Yes, the OpenSky Visa can be used everywhere Visa credit cards are accepted, including car rental agencies. With that being said, rental companies typically place a hold on your payment account to cover incidentals. So you'll need to have enough money in your account to cover the hold as well as the initial rental fees. As a result, we recommend contacting the rental company ahead of time to determine how much money to load to...

Despite all the 1-star reviews, this is a decent card. I have one and contacted customer service once to inquire about payment times and when it would be available back to my credit limit after posting, and they were very helpful with an answer. There was no rudeness from the representative I dealt with. And no, I do not work for them; I'm only expressing my experience as a customer.
If you manage the card properly and make your payments on time, your credit score will increase. In fact, since this card does not do a hard inquiry, just the fact that your report now shows a new open account may boost your FICO score quickly when it shows on your credit report. The purpose of this card is to provide you with a credit history and to increase your FICO score from no score, without impacting your current score/report with a hard inquiry. Don't expect to get a card with bad/no credit as easily as getting this card. With proper management, responsible usage, and a good on-time payment history, you will eventually get your FICO score high enough for future loans/credit cards. It's not an overnight process.
As for payment availability, expect your very first payment to take an extended time to become available to your credit limit after it posts to the card. My first payment took about four days to go back into my available credit after it posted. But with subsequent usage and payments, and after it has been established that you have a good standing payment method, then the available credit is there the day your payment posts.

Applied for the first time and received an error message that the request could not be processed at that time, so I tried a second time but received the same message. Yet, they took my $200 deposit twice. Spent days trying to contact customer support but couldn't get through to a real person and eventually, I let it go. I did receive the card but it always blocked me from making purchases. Had my wallet stolen so needed a replacement. Often had to call and ask when the card would arrive, there was always an excuse and the estimated arrival time was pushed further. I had been away fighting illness for a while so I stopped calling about it, but even after so many months, I never received that card.

@johnbroxton06 I agree, horrible company. They just pass you on to another rep and reps will all hang up. DONT APPLY FOR OPEN SKY they closed my acct bc I couldn’t pay it, but I couldn’t pay bc they weren’t cooperative with my bank. Every payment was done by another card, since open sky wants to act up and not receive document in the only way Wells Fargo would send.

The owners of this card are unethical.
I registered for this card in September 2023 and paid a deposit of $500.
I was supposed to get my money back within 6 months.
I used the card responsibly and paid all bills ahead of time.
I contacted them today, after more than 6 months, to get my money back, but they told me they would refund my money on the condition that they close the account.
I told them that it was unreasonable to close the account, as if the account were closed, I would lose the credit history that I had built up with them for 6 months.
Unfortunately, they confront you with harsh reality and force you to surrender your deposit against your will in order to preserve your credit account.
The truly unfortunate thing is that I actually got my money back from Capital One after 5 months without contacting them, and the same goes for Discover after month 7, but this company's actions are deplorable.
I advise against dealing with them, and legal measures are being taken against them with all proof provided.

I loathe this card. It's the absolute worst, and I would cancel it if it wouldn't affect my credit negatively. Customer Service is non-existent. I regularly get locked out of my account because randomly my password for the app, where I pay my bill, gets reset without my knowledge or warning. It's also a secured card that has a yearly $35 fee. This card and the company it's associated with are subpar. If you are advised to get this card, ask if they have a different suggestion because this card is not worth the aggravation.

Stole My Deposit for 2 Years and Have Not Returned It
What started as a credit-building journey turned into a credit builder scam. I entrusted OpenSky with a credit card deposit initial amount of $1,000 to begin building credit. As I further trusted them, I increased my deposit to $1,500. At one point, I almost went ahead and increased my deposit further to $5,000. Thankfully, something just made me decide not to do it. For 2 years straight, I made all my payments on time; maybe just one was slightly late at most, but overall I was nearly perfect. Then out of the blue, they closed my account for no reason.
At first, I was devastated because I wanted to keep building my credit, but ultimately I accepted it and was doing fine getting accepted with normal credit companies. However, OpenSky would not return my security deposit of $1,500. Their customer service often has hours of wait, no email, no chat, no text. They have a sort of P.O. Box for mail and a long customer service wait nightmare. For years, I have waited to get this security deposit back, being tossed from one department to the next. Only today have I discovered I have to talk to the "Carson Smithfield" department (brand-new information) to attempt to get my security deposit back. I've had enough. These individuals should not be allowed to operate! They prey on people needing to build credit, then withhold their deposit. Give me back my security deposit, OpenSky!

Do not sign up—they are fraudulent. I tried to dispute a fraudulent charge and they refused to provide an email address. I sat on hold for close to 90 minutes—only to be asked if I had a fax machine to send backup information. What is this, 1989? Their customer service is practically non-existent. I am closing my account.
