Technology for All: Space to Play, Create, and Collaborate (2)

Gen Z is the first generation to grow up with 24/7 access to the internet. So for many NYU students, technology isn’t just fun and games. It’s their world. And access to it is vital as they work toward their academic and professional goals. At NYU’s student technology centers and computer labs, students have easy access to nearly any piece of technology they might need. What’s more, they have space to explore, collaborate, and create.

LaGuardia Student Technology Center and Computer Lab

The LaGuardia Student Technology Center and Computer Lab is a one-stop shop for all things tech on NYU’s Greenwich Village campus. As the University’s flagship technology center and computer lab, it has everything students might need. From state-of-the-art computer labs and AV recording booths to gaming and virtual reality services and large format printing stations, it’s available for students to pursue their academic, professional, and personal goals. What’s more, the center hosts free events, gaming tournaments, and workshops.

“It is a very relaxing space,” says Bella Martinez, a junior at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study concentrating in psychoanalysis and consumer economics. “It has a laid-back and cozy atmosphere because it has couches, comfy chairs, and huge windows. The people here are also very low-key and chill, which makes for a very comforting space to study.”

Third North Technology Center and Computer Lab

Sometimes residence hall rooms and apartments can feel a little cramped when it comes time to collaborate on group projects. So if students need a space big enough for their group’s ideas, they should check out the Third North Student Technology Center and Computer Lab. In fact, Third North was designed for students to connect and collaborate around the use of technology. Moreover, it offers comfortable study rooms, computer stations, specialized software, and printing services, among many other resources.

“I love the study rooms that we have at Third North,” says Sarah Randhawa. Sarah is a sophom*ore studying computer science at the College of Arts and Science. “Students come in to work on group projects or to study together, connecting their laptops to the screens or using the whiteboards so they can work collaboratively. The rooms are the perfect size for small groups. And I love how they create an intimate environment where you can ideate together.”

Quick Print at the Kimmel Center for University Life

Located steps from Washington Square Park, the Kimmel Center for University Life is a popular gathering spot for NYU’s dynamic community. The Kimmel Center houses classrooms, offices, and a plethora of student resources. It is also home to one of campus’ most useful (and utilized) printing centers. In fact, Kimmel Quick Print was created to help students accomplish their printing needs as quickly and seamlessly as possible. With multiple printers, it’s a perfect place to swing by if students need a hard copy of their research or assignment.

Technology on a Global Scale

NYU’s degree-granting campuses in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai provide the same access to technology resources as the University’s campus in New York City.

At NYU Abu Dhabi, students gather at the Baraha—Arabic for “open space.” It’s a student activity zone that provides collaborative study spaces, gaming consoles, and more. In addition to the Baraha, NYU Abu Dhabi students have access to software and printing resources, computer labs, and equipment rentals through the Center for Academic Technology.

NYU Shanghai’s New Bund Campus also offers state-of-the-art technology. All classrooms and lecture halls feature advanced digital equipment. And printing at NYU Shanghai is easy and convenient. In fact, each academic building and residence hall is equipped with multifunctional printers.

And if students plan on studying away at one of NYU’s 12 additional global academic locations, they’ll find each is equipped with the space and technology needed for them to make the most of their global experience.
